Best memory for Core 2 Duo system

I put in an order with NewEgg over the weekend for:

- Intel E6300 C2D processor
- Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 motherboard
- G.Skill 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) 4-4-4-12

Doing a little more browsing today, I came across this:

- Crucial Technology 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) 3-3-3-12

The Crucial is only $10 more, but the latency is lower; the G.Skill is 1.8-2.0V whereas the Crucial is 2.2V, so I'm not quite sure if the Crucial would even boot at the higher voltage, at least not without a fight.

I'm wondering if:

a) the Crucial would even work on my motherboard (which wants 1.8V apparently), or at least without a big hassle
b) it's worth it to exchange the G.Skill for the Crucial - e.g. if I'd even notice the difference
c) there are any other memory recommendations for this setup that I might have overlooked

I don't overclock yet but I may tinker with it after I've had this PC for a while; I'm mostly interested in the best stock performance. It's a low-spec workstation that I don't plan to use for gaming - just a lot of multitasking.

Thanks in advance for any help!

^^ Agreed. The timings are of least importance. You'll need fast enough memory that won't cut short your CPU overclock. 965s can't run memory slower than the FSB, only 1:1 or faster.

Awesome! That's just what I was hoping to hear. ;-)

I was excited when I found the deal on the G.Skill, but a little disheartened when I came across the Crucial - I had originally thought that maybe the CAS was a bigger deal than it now seems to be.

I'll hang on to the G.Skill then - thanks everyone for your help!!!

Were the DS3's issues with CL3 memory (not being able to boot) ever resolved?

If not, well, that's a pretty good reason to stick with the G.Skill.

I've never heard of that. I always thought it was the memory needing more voltage than the board was set to supply.
