best memory efficient instant messaging program

So I was curious as to what was a good memory efficient instant messaging program. Currently, I've been using AIM which uses about 33M when the buddy list is open, about 15M for a conversation window and 7M for neither. I tried pidgin assuming it'd be more effiecient but I found it used 20M constantly, regardless of what I was doing. My computer isn't bad and it has no memory problems, its more my personal pet peeves.

Also, does anyone know if aolsoftware.exe is required to run while aim6.exe runs?

I use pidgin here and it's RSS is 29M but the shared amount is 19M which is likely all GNOME/GTK/Xorg libraries so that gives ~10M private data which doesn't seem too bad. But if you're running pidgin on Windows then you're probably not running too many other GTK apps so those shared libraries aren't very shared.

i've found trillian to be pretty memory efficient with a nice variety of features. my only problem with it is the logging. i hate that it stores the logs as txt, is there a way to configure that without upgrading to pro

I always thought Trillian Pro 3.0 is too bloated and I am still use it I have no problem with it. I use Pidgin on my notebook to save some memory (notebook has 2GB memory). Pidgin looks alright to me.
