Best mem for 250fsb+

I am to be building a new amd 64 rig and want to o/c the max out of it. a socket 939, epox or msi board, and with a gig of memory, below 200, i would want to get the best o/c possiblke. cooling would be by the coolmaster hyper 6. and everytrhign else but sata and a 19'' monitor would be up to snuff. assistence is requested.

Under $200? I'd suggest PDP for that range. Cheapest 2x512 CAS2 memory you'll find from a credible dealer. Just installed some last night in a new Athlon64 rig, but haven't got to OCing it yet. Should be able to loosen the timings and squeeze some decent frequency from this stuff for only a little more than value ram.

ya, that PDP stuff that HeroOfPellinor put down is pretty good stuff. I was reading a review on it and they said i think in anandtech that it is possibly some of the best OC'ing memory possible, especially in that price range.

You can't want "the best stuff possbile.. for max uber mega l33t overclocking" and then say you only want to spend 170 bucks on it.. OCZ plat rev 2, Mushkin black 2 v2, crucial ballistix top ram.. kinsgtson hyperx's.. those all cost 250-300 for 2x512.

Yeah I was looking for some of that PDP TCCD based stuff, as it is the cheapest, but I couldnt find anywhere selling 2x512.... I have only heard good things about it, and for the price it cant be beat.

screw timings. for amd, the tightest timings have less then a 1% in memory speed performance increase then the loosest timings.

I agree.. I would go for OCZ PC3200 EL Rev2.0 or the 3700 Gold Rev 3.0 or EB if you can find any 😉.. haven't tried any TCCD chips yet 🙂

So that would do? I was thinking of getting a gig of pc 3700 kingmax. anywho. thanks very much!

thats not the ram.. If you want TCCD, i would look at

this: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-146-842&depa=0

or this: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=20-146-890&depa=0

Or the PQI TCCD ones(somebody please find a link and post 🙂 )

and About the Kingmax.. don't count on it.. Its like hit and trial..(tho, i have seen people hit 250+ with them)

I have 2 x 512MB of Crucial 8T and it does 245 MHz at 3-3-3 with 1T timings at 2.8V. I know someone else with an A64 who has some and his does 250 MHz with those timings and 2.7V. This is single sided ram which the A64 memory controller likes. Not as good as TCCD, but I got it when it was $84. per stick. Its still a pretty good deal.

jeeprs! the ocz stuff is nearly 270! grr this is getting confuzzling: dual raptors, tip tip mem or geforce 6800.

If its gaming performance you are after, out of those three choices the 6800 would be the way to go. It will give you a noticeable performance boost, while the other two choices will not.

Yup crucial is the most underated ram always. I would'nt be surprised if it has Micron C on there or even G same as EB or ballistix respectivly.

Add the fact it's the mst compatable ram in the world (proven by THG many times) it's a no brainer IMO if on a budget but still want quality.

Otherwise PQI TCCD @ 245 for 1024 is the way to fly.

BTW your link is DOA

I found a some 3200 stuff of crucial that could o 2.5-3-3-8 or so. is that good? or should i just say fsk it and get a 1 gb pdp stick? purpose is oc/ing the bleep outta my son to be winchester. also, just got an antec slk2650-bqe at a comp show for 50, reatil, unopened. Is this a good buy? and if so, wouldthe ps hold up with a 6800 and oc/ed winchester?
