Best MB for a 4770k to OC and run 2-3 GPU

Well, for 3 GPUs none of those will be sufficient; you'll need a motherboard with a PLX Chip that allows 4 way SLI. Most mainstream boards will only allow a 3rd gpu in x4, while a PLX motherboard allows x8 times four (or times three). I don't think any such Z87 workstation boards are out yet, but there are some Z77 boards such as the P8Z77 WS. That obviously won't work for the 4770k, but I think another such board is in the works for Z87. Not sure if any of the Z87 workstation boards are out yet. Be aware that quad sli and tri SLI workstation boards cost a ton.

For dual GPU i'd actually recommend paying a bit more for the Asus Z87 pro. The sabertooth is a similar board to the Z87 pro but you're paying 40$ more for the TUF armor.

Maybe I'm not techie enough to understand but the asrock and other said 3 way or 4 way sli. Here is the description for the asrock

With 4th generation 'Haswell' Intel Core processor support, full PCI-E 3.0 and 4-Way SLI and CrossFire support, this motherboard is ready for the future of high performance computing

Also says 3 3.0 16x PCI-e.

Help me understand

X87 chipsets have 16 pci lanes. Those mobos "can" run 3 way sli, it would just be 8x, 4x, 4x (adds up to 16 lanes). which less than ideal. You want at least 8x per lane, which can only be accomplished with a plx chip, which are very expensive. Think around $400 mobos (Maximus Extreme, MSI Xpower, etc). 2 way sli is no problem with your listed mobo. You technically are able to run 3 way, but they will be bottlenecked by the 4x lane speed.

Cool. 3x would be a a future thing.. 2 x 7970 for now. Maybe new CF Hawaii amd when they launch.

So for just 2 cards.. What's the best of these listed?
