Here is my situation, I have saved up, and now I want to buy the absolute best MB/CPU/MEMORY (256mb), combo out there, with overclocking in mind. I have $1100 bucks to do it. But I do not want the 1GHZ ones, or RAMBUS memory, WAY to expensive right now. Is the 933 overclockable? Or the 866? Do any of the current crop of P3's safely overclock to over 1 GHZ? I do want to stick with P3 Coppermines (not Celeron) though. Any input is appreciated.

Take a look at AnandTech's monthly Buyer's Guides. Each month they have a High End Systems Guide and a Value Systems Guide outlining numerous different configurations for different purposes and budgets. Print them out and read them if you like - you'll learn a lot. Note that the Guides won't recommend components that are not yet quite on the market, although they may mention them. Here are the latest Guides that I?ve seen:

AndandTech Home:

Value Systems Guide:

There are no guarantees, but a 750/100 may do 1000/133 or an 800/100 > 1000/125. Be sure to get a P3 Coppermine from the cB0 stepping in the FC-PGA form. See:

For overclocking you don't want to get a CPU designed for a 133 MHZ (like an 800EB, 866 or 933) system bus since they're already at 133 ! See:
