You are merely building a consumer system to be used for Server purposes. Is that what you want, or you want true Server grade parts with a BMC for remote management and ECC RAM support?

yes actually. No need for ECC RAM and BMC for remote management for this setup. and by the way, I was looking up server motherboards for another build i'm trying to do and holy crap. $400+ for any super micro motherboards!

I think you made a great pick. 2.5Gbe and Q Flash+ for $100.

Looks like a good board selection. Do you really need to upgrade from the 6600 though? I wonder how much faster the 12100 will be for your tasks. And though it has HT, it is still just a 4 core. Perhaps to make the upgrade more worthwhile you could grab a 12400 or something? For a 6 core upgrade!

went down this rabbit hole because i kept seeing these deals pop up for refurb'ed dell 9th or 10th gen machines for roughly around $200 which is what it would cost me to salvage all of the other components on this machine for a motherboard and cpu combo which are still solid. I think the Blue Iris AI image detection requires an skylake level GPU but with the other stuff running on it i'd feel it'd might be nice to upgrade. The NAS portion wouldnt save anything that's "mission critical". I might hold off anyways as my dang car just cost me about another $400 in repairs :)
