I'm looking to replace my Tech Armor screen protector with something that offers better visual clarity. The reason for using the screen protector is to give a little tooth to the surface, for using the Apple Pencil. Reducing reflections is only secondary.

Any suggestions on really good matte or semi-matte screen protectors that offer a little tooth the surface?

Not much information there. Have you tried their matte screen protector? Is there any "glimmer"/graininess to it?

How's the graininess on it? I can't see that from any videos, and it's the sole reason to replace the screen protector I already have.

bestskinsever (and xtremeguard if I need something cheaper or need it for a device the bestskinsever don't support..which is MOST of the time) are my goto for polyurethane skins. I recently got a nintendo 3ds that I skinned all up. I was originally only going to do the touchscreen but decided what the hell.. the full body was a dollar more.

That said... for my ipad I went with a tempered glass. The rubber feel of the polyurethane skins can get to you after awhile and you just can't beat the feeling of glass if you can help it. With that said, I have no single source. I mainly just find a china supplier on ebay that passes my smell test. I looked up my order list and see the one I got was "[Scratch Terminator] Anker® Tempered-Glass Screen Protector for iPad Mini/Mini2". It was an excellent protector that had wonderfully beveled edges, cost $13. My phones protector didnt have the beveled edges and feels harsh, but luckily the commuter case keeps your fingers away from the edge.

Honestly, I don't even notice it most of the time.
It this representative of how it looks?

That looks worse than the Tech Armor that I've already got. Could be the photos exaggerating things, but it definitely doesn't seem like an improvement.

The whole point of a matte screen protector for me is the feel. I have it primarily for the Apple Pencil since I have the iPad for drawing and painting. Scratch resistance and glare reduction are only bonuses. I would just prefer less of a compromise in image quality. Considering computer displays are so much better it should be possible to have a screen protector with very little grain.

Don't know what to tell you, your needs appear to be different from mine.

gregow, imo I have never found polyurethane to hinder the color and brightness any if that helps at all. You would get your feels and you would get your image quality. The only problem might be is polyurethane is for he most part glossy still. They have those smudge free and matte polyurethane skins but they just ground the hell out of the surface and video quality is the pits. Unless you are working in an office with a ceiling littered with lights, go with a glossy skin.

How could a glossy skin give anything resembling a paper texture, and why would a matte skin grind down the surface? Aren't they supposed to be smooth on the adhesive side?

Never said anything about paper, you are out of luck on that one. As for the matte skins, like the screen the texture is rough, not smooth as to not reflect light.
