1. Don't use a powerpoint
2. Make it funny
3. Make it short
4. (optional) Make it mildly embarrassing

my brother was my best man. he basically said i kicked ass as a brother and a lot of nice stuff including how great the brides maids looked. i don't think there is a generic speech but i know there are some general best man guidelines on the intertubes because i remember looking at them and telling my brother, "ok, you have to do this, this and this." lol

i agree that powerpoints dont make it as genuinely "from the heart" but all of my family and even the groom is telling me to use it because showing a chronoligical sequence of pictures is apparently an unwritten rule of punjabi wedding receptions.

You should clarify in your thread title that this is a punjabi wedding reception. Etiquette may be different in that situation.

Just don't mess it up or your friend will hate you forever.

You are supposed to make jokes at his expense mixed in with genuine from the heart things. You are supposed to make his wife out to be an angel sent from heaven, never make a joke at her expense. Most importantly thank the parents and the bridesmaids and the groomsmen and everyone else that made the day happen.

IcebergSlim's got it. It's the bride's day, so no jokes at her expense and make sure SHE'S happy with the speech.
