I've been asked to be the best man at my very good mates wedding. From which I've accepted.

One small, minor, little issue (not really even worth mentioning). I havn't a clue what 'duties' I'm responsible for (what does one do as a best man)???

Answers on the back of a postage stamp please....seriously - any help wouild be appriciated.

you plan the bachelor party, or in the UK the stag night, iirc.

you have the featured toast at the reception.

you must make yourself available to help with the wedding in any capacity.

you will most likely have to make sure you have the rings on the morning of the wedding and hold them until the ceremony when you will be asked to produce them.

Bachelor party
Help make things go smoothly @ the ceremony
Remember the rings
Make the toast @ the Reception
Screw the bride's maids.

Basic Duties:
1. organize the most depraved bachelor party that can take place and still allow for the wedding to go on.
2. make sure the groom gets to the church on time
3. give a speech at the reception

Advanced Duties:
4. have a car with the engine running outside the church "just in case"
5. take care of any problems that might hamper the couple's enjoyment on their day
6. make sure the jealous ex-girlfriends do not show up at the reception drunk and ready to rumble

take care of everything while groom hides in the back of the church

pay people at the reception (of course groom provides $$$$$)

toast...and make it a good fun one

The stag party is gonna consist of either (sad as it sounds) a LAN party (his idea, if he wants this one when I've got to think of how to 'spice' it up a bit) or a weekend in Prague (my idea).

I come back from the suit fitting last Sunday (which I organised).

It's also gonna be a bit difficult to be 'on-hand' for any wedding planning as they live over 300miles away

No hand on stuff, but you can start collecting his & her child hood memorabilia for a slide/video show ++ speech at the reception.

Best man = right hand man

Basically just try to make sure the day goes as smoothly as possible for the groom. Help out with the limo, the wedding rings, plan the bachelor party, help oversee the reception if possible.
