Im going to converting to OXS from windows and im set on getting a mac.

For student on a tight budget, would the macbook be sufficient enough? im probably gonna throw some extra ram in but im assuming for basic school needs the mac book is sufficient enough.

I also have no problem getting an older gen mac aslong as is dual core and is in decent shape, whats a good price for an older macbook so i can start checking ebay and CL..

Pretty much any Mac will do as long as its one with an Intel processor. The PowerPC processors are just way too slow by today's standards.

The base model MacBook is actually a very powerful machine. It should work just fine for your needs. Don't forget to use the education deal. You'll get it for cheaper and get a free iPod.

This. You don't need anything fancy.

Are we talking the plastic MacBook (which is quite sturdy) or the slightly more expensive, but all around better 13" MacBook Pro? I would say, spend the extra $300 or so to the get the 13" MacBook Pro. Aluminum instead of plastic, 7 hour battery instead of 5ish, LED backlit screen with great viewing angles versus not, plus it is a little thinner and lighter I believe.
