I'm looking to buy a new suitcase to bring for trips. I've had some experience with samsonite and wasn't too happy about them. Anyone have some good experiences with brands?

American tourister? Heys? I have a Heys set. It's nice metal framed so things dont get crushed on the inside.

Finally, a chance to use all of my luggage-store sales clerk experience. Hartmann and Tumi are the nicest things out there for general use, although, you might be a little suprised at the price tags (e.g. $700 for a rolling garmet bag, ~$350 for a regular garmet bag). Great if you REALLY travel a lot though, and their warrany repair services are first rate.

If you're not on the road every week, though, you might think about something by TravelPro--they have several lines, and the keep changing them, but whatever is in the midddle seems to be a nice mix of durability/function and price. The cheap stuff is a little cheap for my taste, and the better stuff is more in the Hartmann/Tumi league.

If you get it at a luggage store in a mall or something (usually the best place for the selection) make sure that you're not too excited about the bag, and ask for a 10% discount. If the total purchase is over $250, you should get it, or ask to speak to their manager and see if you can get the discount (Tumi and Hartmann never, ever go on sale though.)

Any questions, PM me.

Ahh... good point, I have one of Victorinox briefcases, and it's good quality--even better is the way that they've thought that bag out. Pockets generally where needed, nice little compartments for thigns like sunglasses and water bottles that I wouldn't have thought of, but love. I'm guessing that their luggage is the same way.

regardless of how nice your luggage is the airline will find a way to destroy it.

I buy used crap at thrift stores or cheap shyt at swap meets. When it gets disgustingly dirty or breaks I toss it and buy something else. A thief would never think to look inside my luggage. :D

Yep, and paint it with gold butterflies so you can identify it easy at claims. I despise watching bags go round and round and round and...

I have a samsonite and a delsey. The samsonite is 5 years old and the delsey 10 years. With far less travel in 5 years the samsonite looks like the delsey.

lands end has supplied all my luggage needs for the last 25 years or so, and hasn't disappointed me yet. I'm tired of the first pieces now but they won't wear out, so.. I'm still using them.
