Best Linux or Unix distro to fit on 120 mb - NAT box

My mind is mostly turned towards FreeBSD which I have the newest version of.

I basically need a distro that comes with masq'ing, Apache, web-admininterface and a good FTP daemon.

If anyone could point me to a place with a good overview of distro's and their specialities, would it be great to 🙂

Thanks 🙂

OpenBSD is probably one of the smallest UNIX compatible systems out there. You shouldnt need ftp or apache so that will get you a couple more MBs. IPF is a great firewall and IPNAT will work for "MASQing". I have seen atleast oen article in sys admin magazine about putting OpenBSD on a 128MB flashdisk or something. So it can be done 🙂

Try Slackware 8.0... specially the Zipslack installation its really minimal and
from there you can install any app that you want!!!

Or you can seach google for one of those minimal linux systems, like
peanut, dragon, doslinux and such.....

I've gotten Slackware 8.0 with gcc and everything (naturally no X11, but you don't need, or rather shouldn't expect that with such small space options) down to about 53mb (might have been a little smaller). If you really want to get even smaller you can replace all the "normal" GNU commands (and even the vi text editor includes with slack, which is elvis) with a blackbox executable + symlinks. This makes for a VERY, VERY compact command set.
