Really, if you want to play games just stick with windows. It's a pain in the ass getting things to work under Wine and Cedega, and chances are the performance suffers.

Cool, I ended up installing my old NIC since I was reading some SUSE forums and saw that as a suggestion, on starting linux it now told me that it recognized the new card and got me online. But I still can't see web pages. It gave me a weird IP also, was really long. Tomorrow I am going to make a screenshot for you to see.

Go to Yast --> Network Devices --> Network Cards. Make sure your card is configured properly (like dhcp or static ip is configured corresponding to your router's settings). Look at how you configured it in Windows and configure it the same in Suse.

Now about the mp3s, this depends on which program you use. Different programs use need different packages. If you use Amarok, install amarok-xine. If you use XMMS, you might need xmms-lib. etc.

For your sound card go to Yast --> Hardware --> Sound.

For graphical acceleration which card do you use, Nvidia or Ati?

ALL the trouble your going through to play games on linux @ low frame rate ;(

Because most games have relatively the same frame rates in Cedega, there are exceptions that have higher and lower frame rates but if they're not any of the games he wants to play, then why should he care?

Will all games coming out from now forward be native to Linux?

When you say Doom is native (I thought someone said that or was it Quake 4), does it mean it works with the same graphics quality as it does on Windows?

Doubtful unless there's a very quick shift from DirectX to OpenGL/SDL.

When you say Doom is native (I thought someone said that or was it Quake 4), does it mean it works with the same graphics quality as it does on Windows?

It means that it's a real Linux binary and not a Windows one being run via WINE. And both D3 and Q4 are native AFAIK, most id titles were since they did a large chunk of development on Linux.

OK. But, how about the graphics quality? If I play on Windows and then switch and play on Linux, will I see a degradation in graphics?

Thanks!

I've never done any comparisons but I doubt there would be much difference if there is any at all since you're using the same software on pretty much the same drivers.

Q3, Q4, D3 all look the exact same on linux, I do get higher frame rates in linux. UT2004 actually looks better on linux imho. This is becuase it uses OpenGL in linux and it just seems smoother and cleaner. Plus I get better framerates. You are not going to lose graphica quality on linux, native or wine games. You might have to lower your in game settings with games in wine, but the game is still capable of the same graphics it can do on windows. Native linux games are just like their windows counterparts. Although sometimes they get higher frame rates probably due to drivers.
