Best linux distro for this laptop and linux noob?

I use a lot of wifi I have a linksys wifi card. here are the laptop specs

Pentium III 1ghz
512 megs ram
30 gig HD
Geforce 2 32meg
dvd/cdr
wifi
15' UXGA

^ This thread may help. Unfortunately, most linksys products are based off the broadcom chipset with is closed source. There are projects revolving around open sourced drivers for proprietary chipsets, but your card may or may not be supported. My personal recommendation would be SimplyMepis since it has excellent driver support so if there were a distro that would have the best chance of having the driver, it'd be this one. Your system should be able to handle it. Second distro in mind may be Ubuntu.
 
I would boot a liveCD and see if you can identify the chipset. Some Linksys cards are atheros based too, and in that case you would be fine.
