Best Linux distro for newbies?

What would be the best linux for a newb? So you know how much of a newb I am, I have not yet been able to get the nVidia driver to install properly. Thats how much of a newb I am.

And now for a WinXP question. I have installed all the program I can see in my All Programs display. Is there any way I can see more programs without increasing screen resolution? (Like the down and up buttons in your favorites drop down?)

Ubuntu is good, but Mepis is probably easier and is compatible with Debian's repositories.

For your WinXP question, maybe you can try a third party uninstaller like Your Uninstaller or something.

I'm using SUSE 9.2 Live DVD right now to browse the web. It seems pretty nice. And its a safe way to try Linux before messing up your boot sector and installing Grub.

A question for you Linux lovers: I've been playing with Gnome and KDA login sessions and they seem alright, but I tried the fvmw and I hate it. Can someone please tell me why it would be useful? It seems a lot slower than the others and its ugly too. I think its a little more complicated to get at the stuff I need. Who invented it?
