Best Linux build for Dell wifi laptop with noob Linux user?

Ubuntu works great on my dell, but if you have a broadcom card, I think Simply Mepis will do the NDIS wrapper stuff

PCLinuxOS will work well for you. I believe Mepis is the only one that will try to use the card out of the box, but pclinuxos is the only distro I have found that has all browser plugins and PROPER plugin integration done right. Onlything I needed to do post install was to install the windows drivers using ndiswrapper for my wireless and install libdvdcss2 for watching DVD's.

If you have a Broadcom card you're pretty much screwed. ndiswrapper may work, but it requires running Windows drivers inside of Linux which is just generally a bad idea. If you're lucky and have an Intel wifi card, you should be fine. The most work you might have to do is download the firmware from Intel since they won't give distirbutions permission to redistribute their firmware.
