Best Linux build for Acer Aspire One?

I'd probably try the Ubuntu version for netbooks. Supposedly, Jaunty Jackalope (9.04; release: April 2009) will have more power saving stuff built in just for netbooks and notebooks.

Yep, and they just released verson 2 of the Alpha as well. Might be worth checking out. The one downside is that they don't have the graphics drivers ready yet, so you won't get hardware acceleration or Compiz for awhile (if these netbooks can even run Compiz).

It works on my Eee900...Pretty well actually. I've been impressed with the performance of Compiz on my low end computer :^)

Compiz is nice, but I didn't bother reinstalling it when I went from Kubuntu back to Ubuntu (after using Kubuntu for only a few days). The built-in advanced desktop effects of Ubuntu are more than enough for me. The only thing I kind of miss is the cube, and not even that much. I probably get a little more battery life by leaving metacity as the window/desktop manager.
