Best links documenting Dell Battery Recall before/after?

I'm doing a Crisis PR project studying how Dell (and Sony, and possibly others affected) handled the huge Battery Recall.

Since many of you guys are in IT and likely keep up with the news better than I do, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with links to stories that I might miss.

For instance, I am hoping to find information documenting the first few problems with the batteries, including pictures to show if possible.

Also, I would like to find any information regarding how Sony is handling the problem, so it can be compared to how Dell is handling it. I want to discuss how each is sharing the blame and how they may be bound because of their business relationship.

Last, if you have had any personal experience beyond requesting a new battery and having it ship without any issues, feel free to post. Or if you have any ideas on what else might be good to discuss, feel free to bring up those issues as well.

Thanks for any help!!

Anyone know how picky Dell is with the return of the bad battery?

I have several users that have already received the new batteries, but have not sent back the bad battery. I know that they don't even ask for any CC# when requesting a new battery.

If they don't send in the old battery, would they get charged some way?

I got an email from dell informing me that my replacement battery has been delayed, and that it will ship in mid-october. Until then they informed me that I can still safely use my laptop as long as the battery is removed and it is connect to AC power.

Of course, you can go to Dell's webpage, order a new battery and have it shipped in 24 hours. Bastards.

I put in a claim with Dell for my bad i9300 battery in mid-August and still have not received a replacement. BTW, Dell never asked me to return the dab battery back to them.

That is an excellent point. I think I will bring that up!

Thanks!

This is also an issue I have thought of. Dell gives information about how they can be disposed of, but does nothing to ask for them in return.

Previous recalls such as one by Nikon required for the defective battery to be returned within a certain amount of time.

I am over the project to replace the recalled batteries at my company. We have over 600 Dell laptops and of those, 129 effected. I had a Dell Project Manager to communicate the replacement with which made it much easier. She sent me an excel spreadsheet with the laptop model, serial number, and battery serial numbers so we could track down the effected laptops. They told us to expect the batteries in 20 business days but 3 days later I got a shipment of 78 D600/D610 batteries and 26 D810 batteries; the D800 batteries came 2 weeks later due to manufactoring restraints. Each box had 10 new Dell batteries that were in their own box with a return label and tape to seal the box. Looking at the shipping label, dell has deemed this project the "Bumblebee Project", have no idea why that name but so be it. This Wednesday we are setting up a table so that each of the effected associates can bring their laptop down and we will replace their battery. For their trouble, we have 3 $50 Wal-Mart gift cards that will be drawn for. Very pleased overall the way Dell is handling this.

I actually live in Deltona and work in Maitland.

I do get tired of driving 🙁.

Thought so. They said mine shipped exactly two weeks ago. Still don't have it. WTF?

I brought this up in my presentation about this for my PR class.

Thanks. My paper is handed in and presentation done, but I am still interested in seeing this stuff.

BTW, still haven't recieved my battery!

Accidentally unplugged my computer without it yesterday. Not taking it out anymore...
