Best lightweight Distro to boot as a rescue disk?

I'm currently researching the best distro to use as a rescue disk. I would need all the basic apps and diagnostics, and boot off of USB.

Would Puppy Linux or SLAX be a good choice?

This would be for ALL THOSE FAMILY members who continually mess up their Windows installs. So interaction with XP/Vista is a must.

Thanks

I suppose it depends on what kind of "rescue" you'll be needing...

I've been using SystemRescueCD for along time. It'll take care of the majority of problems I routinely run across.

It's funny (odd) that you mentioned Puppy! I've recently started using Puppy as an alternative to SystemRescueCD. The 'rescue tools' that come with Puppy are the same ones I'm using on the SystemRescueCD - and Puppy has a prettier and more pleasing interface, blah, blah, blah.

As an aside, I don't know why they call that distro Puppy - but Puppy is a FUN distro - a joy to use - almost like playing with a Puppy. I run it on one of my doorstop computers, and I love it (for what it is)...

Having said that, I just got back from a trip to Florida - and while I was surfing the web from my hotel room, I was reading (on DistroWatch) that SystemRescueCD has just released a major update with a totally new interface - and so forth, and so on.

I didn't have any blank discs with me, so I'll download the SystemRescueCD iso file after I get done posting this message, and give it a whirl. Thanks for spurring my memory!

Anyway, that would be my recommendation(s) - SystemRescueCD or Puppy Linux. ;)
