I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra, and about 35,000 miles ago replaced the stock tires with Pirelli Scorpions. Now these are bald too and exceedingly dangerous in the rain....all 2 days of rain we've had this year.

Anyway, what are some good, solid tires for a pickup? Looking more for ride and lack of road noise than anything else.

All I know is that Michelin is giving out free Palm Zires with a set of tires so that's my incentive for that brand :p

I was also looking at Cooper, or just going ahead and getting another set of Scorpions.

Coopers are not the best. I wore through the ones that came with my Dodge in about 6000 miles. They were quiet and had good maners though, including in the rain.

What size you got on your truck? I will do some lookin for ya. Do you do any off roading or plan to? Do you haul stuff? what load range tires you have now?

I hope 6000 is a typo:eek:

I had a GMC Sonoma and put a set of Firestone SS on it. This was before all that Firestone SUV stuff happened. Anyway, those were the best tires I ever had. I got like 70K miles out of them, they were economical, looked great, and never failed to perform. I don't care how bad a reputation Firestone has gotten lately, I like 'em and would probably buy another set. Hope it helps.

:)

I put 29000 miles on my truck the entire time I had it, and went through 4 sets of tires. I have the invloces to prove it :) The original Coopers, 2 sets of Michelens, and finaly a set of TSL thronbirds. Average life of a set? 8500 miles not including the thornbirds, as they still had 95% tread when stolen. And the tread was about 1" deep :) I was figuring about 15000 for those.

Definitely no offroading or heavy hauling. Just a good highway tire at normal speeds (<100mph)

Right now I think I have 265/70R17

I had some General Grabbers put on my F-150 (2wd). A little less noise than the stock Goodyears.

Edit - I just checked General's site and I should specify they were the Grabber AW, not the big 'ol off-road ones they sell :).

I've got Grabber's on my F250. Seem like nice tires. They're the first General's I've ever owned. The truck's only got about 5000 miles on it, but the tires don't seem to be wearing much.

I always had BF Goodrich tires on my Toyota 4x4's, either the Mud Terrain or All Terrain..... I need good offroad tires, so not the best for on-road ride.... With my Ford Ranger, I went with some Goodyear Wrangler AT/S's and I am very happy with them..... Very good ride qualities, work well in the rain, and do pretty good offroad as well... link.... As stupid as it sounds, I take my tire selection very seriously, and highly recommend these...

Michelin M/S ... awsome times for snow/rain/light mud situations, very quiet for a truck tire... little spendy but IMO it's worth it, plus you get the free Zire :D

Yokohama (sp?) MT/R's, pretty nobby tire, ive got them on my F150, kinda loud, but they go through just about anything :)

yokohama does not have an MT/R. They have an M/T They are unbelieveably quite, IMHO, when compared to other offroad tires.

I had Yokohama's on my wife's Subaru. They wore through in less than 25,000 miles. I wasn't real pleased.

I had the same wrangler's on my last Ranger. They were good, but the tread life was absolutely horrid. I think they lasted like 20k miles before they were bald. No hard off-roading or crazy street driving either.

last months copy of peterson's 4 wheel and off road did a comparo of about 15 different tires with reviews. there are mud and all terrain tires in there. Hell, even towing.

In this instance I am not going to recomend a tire, because what you are looking for is outside what I have done research on. I can however tell you my coopers sucked. I can not tell you their designation though, as it has been too long and I do not remember. I could identify them by their tread pattern though if need be.

It doesn't really have a lot of reviews but they do have a section for users comments. It's worth a look to see what is out there in your size and some people have gotten good deals from there. You'll have to find a local place to have them mounted but they have a page for that also.

If you want to spend some money the Michelin Cross Terrain SUV have good reports.

I like BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's. I bought a set 30K miles ago and they still look new. Ride really nice. Worth every penny.

They replaced stock goodyear tires that wore out way too early.

That doesn't mean all Yokohama tires are bad. Currently, the Yokohama Avid Touring tire is one of the better tires on the market with an 80,000 mile treadwear warranty.

or just going ahead and getting another set of Scorpions.
It doesn't seem like the Scorpions were the best tires. Why get another set?

Michelin cannot be beat for longevity and warranty

I will say my winter tires are some cheap azz Fisk's from Discount though, 3 years and they still look new (seriously)... I definantly approve of them as far as a "cheapie"
