AFAIK you don't have to lap Thermal's. Best on the market are going to be any version of TRUE (Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120, pricey) or any clone of it (lower priced Xigmatek HDT-S1283, Sunbeamtech Core Contact Freezer, Tuniq Tower 120).Originally posted by: Capt Caveman
I've been out of the loop for a while. i just ordered a Q9550 and also in the market for a heatsink.
Do Thermalrights still come with concave bases requiring lapping?
Any recent heatsink reviews that compare the latest and greatest?
Thx

heh lots of talk.. i have few things to say.. TUNIQ TOWER aint a great cooler its just cheap.. (you will find them for around 22 used at most..) i have two of them just sitting in a box that have been upgraded to corecontact freezer..
so my question is.. is it really worth it to buy the bolt through kit.. like especially if i want to upgrade the cpu later and dont really like taking the mobo out of the case (should have room its antec 1200) so my question is.. corecontactfreezer with stock mounting or s1284 with stock mounting..
Did you test the Cooler Master yet?Originally posted by: JPB

I would go with the Core Contact Freezer. I have seen A LOT of reviews lately that puts it at the same level of performance with the TRUE coolers. Even two sites I read puts it 1-2 degree cooler. So yea, it is a very very good cooler.
