I'm about to buy a Q9550 and I want to just set the fsb to 400 and run it at 3.4Ghz. I would like to order in 5-10 minutes. What coolor should I buy for it? Thanks.

No, not unless you don't ever load all four cores, and don't run any stability test on it.

If not, what is a good cooler I can purchase alongside the processor that I can just install without having to take my motherboard out and install a back plate?

The best that doesn't require a backplate is the Scythe Ninja B, but you're going to have to remove the motherboard to install any LGA775 heatsink, so get used to that.

xigmatec s1283 also is push pin based don't have to take out the board, however, probably would be better you take out the board to install.

What's the best cooler to use then? I will accept having to take my motherboard out.

Tuniq is a tried and true one if you have room in your case for a 120mm

Zerotherm Nirvana 120 is just as good or better than the tuniq. It keeps my Q9550 stable at 3.4ghz idles at around 30C

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the heads up.

For extreme cooling, the best are the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, the Tuniq Tower, the Sunbeam CR-CCTF, and the Xigmatech 1283.

edit: And yes, the ZeroTherm Nirvana is also an excellent heatsink.

Apparently the Freezer 7 Pro will have a hard time taking you all the way to 3.4Ghz, but you just might. I just got a similar build and I ordered the OCZ Vendetta 2.

My Freezer 7 Pro took my Q6600 to 3.4GHz fine, I upgraded to water in search of higher clocks and never got them. IMHO, the freezer 7 pro is a fine cooler.

I have a freezer 7 pro and my cpu load is 55C in my CM690 case, Q6600 @ 1.325 VID @ 3.00GHz. It works fairly well, and for the money, it is definitely the best bang for the buck

Q6600 and Q9550 are different animals.... But its way better than stock. Ultra 120 true extreme is great for a 9550.

Do you still have to lap those Ultra120's out of the box to get the performance from them?

I'm not sure who told you that, but you should never try to install any LGA775 heatsink with the motherboard installed in a case. You know all of the noobs who come here saying "Why does my heatsink keep falling off?" That's what happens when you try to install an LGA775 heatsink, without removing the motherboard.;)

well nobody told me that, i just did it and had no problems. it has been on now since Wednesday and has not fallen off one time. i just followed the directions posted in one of the reviews that says about not locking the pins till they are inserted then locking them.
