I'm about to buy a Q9550 and I want to just set the fsb to 400 and run it at 3.4Ghz. Will the stock cooler be able to handle this?
If not, what is a good cooler I can purchase alongside the processor that I can just install without having to take my motherboard out and install a back plate?

What's the best cooler to use then? I will accept having to take my motherboard out.

xigmatec s1283 also is push pin based don't have to take out the board, however, probably would be better you take out the board to install.

another one where you do not need to take the board out is the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro

Q6600 and Q9550 are different animals.... But its way better than stock. Ultra 120 true extreme is great for a 9550.

I have a freezer 7 pro and my cpu load is 55C in my CM690 case, Q6600 @ 1.325 VID @ 3.00GHz. It works fairly well, and for the money, it is definitely the best bang for the buck

I'm not sure who told you that, but you should never try to install any LGA775 heatsink with the motherboard installed in a case. You know all of the noobs who come here saying "Why does my heatsink keep falling off?" That's what happens when you try to install an LGA775 heatsink, without removing the motherboard.![]()
