Best LCD under $300

I'm new to LCDs, I know a good contrast ration and low response time are important, but I'm still at a loss. If you guys could point me in the right direction, I would be eternally grateful. Oh and $300 is the limit, and I'd like about a 19" (or greater) widescreen.

I'm considering this: NEC LCD195WVXM-BK Black

I dunno if you intend to spend close to 300 or something ; but im pretty pleased with my hanns g JW199D. When i bought it it was one of the cheapest 19" lcds but outspeced most of the lcds that were 20-40 dollars more of the same size.

I picked up my 22" WS LCD for $299 + tax (in mysig), so a little higher than your budget, but very close. I also have a 19" widescreen Viewsonic that I briefly used, and now my wife uses. The 19" widescreen wasn't bad, but the 22" is waaaaaaay better. I felt the 900 pixel height was a bit limiting, and the screen height was too short. The 22" screen is way more immersive for gaming.

As far as the LCD you are considering, it's decent, but nothing to set it apart. Its a TN panel with 6-bit color. Nothing wrong with that, but the NEC name brand doesn't give it any benefit.

I have a 3 year old 20inch Dell 2001FP and I LOVE IT. No complaints, I game on it, watch TV on it, everything you can think of and it is AWESOME.

Ooh, that's pretty. Thanks guys. Oh and how big of a problem is dead pixel thing? I'll be getting one of those new snazzy ATI 650? TV cards to replace my old VE, so I'll be watching TV on this here monitor.

NEC makes some really good monitors, but its hard to get anything really great from them for under 300 outside of their really value line (and that line is just bleh, you could probably just buy a viewsonic or something)
