Hello everyone.

Been awhile since I posted here as I was pursuing my dream... a Drum&Bass Dj. My dream isn't producing enough cash flow but I am still pursuing simply for my love of the music. Anyway I'm going back to college... Temple U. here in Philly. I've finished 3 years in my Business B.A. Looking to go back get my degree and start on my own production/promotional company. Whew rambling on about my life heh.

So I need to know what best laptop's fall into the $1800 or less category. Gonna use it for mostly school right now and some mobile dj'ing using it as a sample library for my sets. I've looked at few but just can't make my mind up. Like to see if the one's I've narrowed down are mentioned then take it from there. My ol' IBM P2 400 mhz just doesn't cut it anymore for me... so many repairs lately and not worth the effort to maintain it.

Thanks for all the help that comes.

Oh yeah a few things I'd like to have on it are:

Networking capabilty
Windows 2k will be my O/S
DVD drive a must since my I have a 6 DVD's full of sample's.

i am shopping in the $3000 market and will get an Inspirion 8000. I am not sure about that price. if I were in that range, I'd probably go for the Toshiba GeForce2Go which can be had for under $2100 (close to your figure) hope that helps.

one word - Sony. The mid-level XG series should definitely fit the bill for what you'll be using it for.

Yeah the Sony PCG-XG500K was one of the ones I was looking at. Just hoped to spend a little less... damn car needs a tune-up bad and gonna cost me $300... but I gues I'm not gonna get lucky with my wants v. price :)

I've also looked at a few Toshiba's, and Dell's. Guess I should be ready to spend $2100 instead. I dunno just so hard deciding ... not quite the same as desktops heh.

How about the Toshiba 2805-C302? I have one similar to that and it is great. Should meet your specs and price ;)

The new Athlon 4 notebooks look priced very well Best Buy has a 1Ghz Athlon 4 HP for $2100 (If it was a P3 that would be closer to 3K)... but Im sure you can find a 800Mhz for your price range.
