Best laptop for under $1500?

What's the best laptop to get for under $1500? My dad wants one and was thinking of getting a 13" Dell. He wants one thats not hard to lug around.

doesn't it start at $2k? and it's 15.4"...

op, i think the dell might be a good choice. what's he going to use it for? i've been out of the loop so i don't know if anything else would be better..

If your dad doesn't need a dedicated GPU or a hi def optical drive and just wants a basic small portable laptop it shouldn't be hard to find. The Vostro series is pretty good I hear. Otherwise a Thinkpad?

The Fujitsu LOOX R (ahem) loox pretty hot!

It's a 2.8-pound, 12.1-inch lappy with an LED backlit 1280 x 800 panel (non-widescreen) and Penryn Processor.

You can even order it with a numeric keyboard... one of my pet peeves (usually only available >= 17" lappys)!

BTW, they claim an 11+ hour battery life (under "best case" conditions, whatever that may be)...

You can find many THinkPads well within that price range. You can't really go wrong there either. Start with the R series, and then look at the T. No 13" ThinkPads though.... Wasn't even aware that Dell had a 13".

Everex is by far the best deals I have seen on laptops. I have a vaio, but my buddy bought a everex for 700 and it is 17 inches with a good gfx card

Whatever laptop you get make sure it has a dedicated GPU.

Vista runs far better

Dell 1530 can be had for that... 8600GT, 250GB HDD, 3gb of ram, Intel T7500 etc...
