anyone who thinks the world's greatest athlete is mohammad ali or michael jordan or anything equaly as ignorant/stupid is a gigantic moron.

Great argument, I really like how you completely don't explain your 'logic' whatsoever. :p

i didn't think i'd need to explain why multiple gold-winning olympians in various events at various olympics were better athletes than a boxer, a basketball star who sucked at baseball, and anyone else who was only good at one sporting event.

so anyone that wins a triathalon must rock!!!

so, you're insinuating that someone who wins an olypmic triathalon and holds a world record is not as good an athlete as someone who's awesome at boxing or basketball?

1984 olympics - gold (100m)
1984 olympics - gold (200m)
1984 olympics - gold (4x100m)
1984 olympics - gold (long jump)
1988 olympics - gold (100m)
1988 olympics - gold (long jump)
1988 olympics - silver (200m)
1992 olympics - gold (long jump)
1992 olympics - gold (4x100m)
1996 olympics - gold (long jump)

that's for carl lewis...

now, here are jim thorpe's credentials:

"He won Olympic gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon, starred in college and professional football, played Major League Baseball and also had a career in basketball. He subsequently lost his Olympic titles when it was found he had played two seasons of minor league baseball prior to competing in the games (thus violating the amateur status rules). In 1983, thirty years after his death, his medals were restored."

now, here are jackie joyner-kersee's credentials:

1984 - silver (heptathalon)
1988 - gold (heptathalon)
1988 - gold (long jump)
1992 - gold (heptathalon)
1996 - bronze (long jump)

... AND she had asthma....

do you honestly mean to tell me that frigging mohammad ali, michael jordan, and a couple other people rank higher than these people when it comes to being the greatest athlete in recorded history?

absurd.

maybe i'll start another thread about that...since this thread has nothing to do with it.

anyway, I see where you're getting at...but to dominate a sport, you have to be great at various atheletic aspects of that sport as well as be intelligent enough to utilize those skills. I dont know, track is strictly atheletic while sports require much more out of you.

And I wonder how jordan would have done in the long jump :)

Reading comprehension must not be your strong suit.

To the OP, I would add Lance Armstrong.

Lance Armstrong is hated outside of the US, especially after his steroid use.

Idiot...Lance never used steroids. Oh, and there's no proof he ever used EPO either so STFU.

You have to be kidding me! Where's Michael Johnson? He shattered the previous world record (also his) in the 200m dash by around 3/10s of a second. At that caliber, it's freaking huge. Also Steve Prefontane is a distance runner to never be forgotten.

MY original post was directed at the 2 golf players that the op edited out of his post. The op has even changed the topic title. Before it said "most athletic people ever" or something to that sort...and im sorry, golf players shouldnt even be mentioned.

Just so I am clear, you have made a post entitled "Best known athletes worldwide" and then used ATOT as the reference/source for the list?

Just want to understand the point here.

Also, the guy who thinks carl lewis is a better athlete than jordan because jordan "sucked at baseball" is funny. I wonder how Carl Lewis would have done in the minors. Not well at all, I suspect. He'd be lucky to be a batboy.
