best kinds of fans?

I have a brand new Antec Three Hundred case, and now the rear 120mm fan will start to constantly squeak after the computer has been turned on for a little bit.

I will try some WD40 first, but if that does not work I will have to replace it. What kinds of fan bearing should I look for to keep as little noise as possible?

WD40 is not a particularly good oil for use on PC fans. 3-in-one or similar is a better idea. WD40 is more like a penetrating oil and may be less safe on plastics, etc. The fans on the Antec "Hundred" series cases are generally the tri-cool type. So try a different switch setting (should have HI, MED, Low) switch settings. IDK where to find the switch on the Tricool fans, but shouldn't be hard to find. I probably wouldn't buy an Antec fan as a separate purchase, there are better at lower cost.

the best bang/buck fans you can get at any RPM range are the Yate Loon Low (1350rpm) Med (1800rpm) and high (2200rpm) speed fans. they can be had as low as $3.30 each from Jab-tech + shipping which becomes more reasonable if you purchase other items from the same site.

all of which comes with at least a 3-pin (mine came with 3pin + 4pin) and can be controlled well even at 7v with a fan controller.

I also have an excellent fan in my for sale/trade listing (linked below). CM Y720 model. If you decide you need a new one. Of course, if you case is really new and you have a receipt, Antec should replace the fan except for provable abuse/misuse. Check with them about it - they have been easy to deal with in the past, but have been tightening up on warranty replacements lately.

I wouldn't use WD40, its more of a cleanser than it is a greaser. you can use it but then you'll have to use some light grease afterward. I just picked up some yate loons from Petras after reading a dozen or so posts from Zepper and LOUISSSSS on different threads. Get a hold of Antec and see if they'll send you out a new 120 tri-cool for replacement. It's worth a shot.

agreed.

+1

Just contact Antec tech support. Too bad their two reps that were here are not here anymore.

If you really want to fix it yourself, don't use WD40 (as others have said). You need something thicker and without the solvents, such as 3-in-1 Household Oil (now by the same company that makes WD40). This will prolong the life of the fan and make it quieter, but it only delays the inevitable death of sleeve bearing fans.

You want the Yates from Petra's, NOT Jab-Tech

PS:
I use Aritic Cooling Fans and they are great for the price..
Most everywhere sells them but unless you want a fan that JUST Blows Out get the standard style fan and they the special open caged fan...
I have eight 80mm AC fans and almost cant hear them..

(They are the slowest speed AC PWM models)

This has NOT been confirmed.

All of my Jab-Tech yates are fine and are a newer build date.

Also, I use grease if my fans wear out. I use a tooth pick to work it down into the hub.

In the post I linked it had two different Part Numbers, so I guess Jab-Tech could have the same model fans now, I know I would if I owned Jab-Tech 🙂
PS:
I do buy from Jab-Tech and like there store 🙂 (I have not bought from Petra's as of yet)

my high speed YL 120mm fans from JT use the same motor as every yate loon sold (yes, the same exact 120mm YL as the ones sold at PTS)

Jab-Tech admitted the ones with 80mm motors were from a bad batch and they have been replaced. I'm just 100% tired of the debate as it's been shown that recent Jab-Tech fans are the same as the petras fans, yet people still keep spreading old links and info. One bad post spreads like wildfire, the correction and good post never gets seen.

I am going to contact Antec. The screeching went away after I posted of course. then last night it started up again in the middle of the night. Seems the pc needs to be shut down for a bit for the fan to operate quietly for a while.

JW,
My experience is to buy replacements anyway, that is if you would like quiter fan......

Mt stock Antec 80mm fans are twice as loud as my AC 80s
