Best Joystick games?

Ive never owned a Joystick or ever even seen one used or known anybody that plays Joystick games. Ive been looking into trying out different genres and was wondering if anyone has recomendations for games that support a joystick. I dont have a Joystick yet but I have a $50 giftcard for my local EB and they have the Sidewinder Percision 2, I may pick it up....along with a game for it.

Any thoughts?

I have a gamepad....Im just thinking of getting a joystick...looking for recomendations on a game to go with it🙂

"the best" joystick the the thrustmaster Hotas. and that would be for mainly flight sims. I've really only liked flight sims and mech sims for joysticks, anything else is mouse + keyboard.

Crimson Skies is a good game to start with, as it is more demanding than an arcade game but less so than a flight sim. In other words,
you don't need a super-duper fancy stick to play it.

What! Crimson skys?!?! Pfffffttttt.

If you have only one joystick game to pick... IL2. 🙂

(try the demo)

I second the recommendation for Crimson Skies - playing it on an old Sidewinder force feedback was a pleasant experience. It's not at all expensive, and you can't beat the kick you feel as you fire the 70 caliber guns or turn on the nitro =).

I am a bit biased towards the old games, Descent 3 and Freespace especially.

I found Crimson Skies in a drawer in and didn't even know I had it. Does it work with force feedback joysticks?

If you can find a copy of Descent: Freespace 2, I highly recommend it. One of the best space shooters ever made. The graphics are awesome, and you can probably find it for $20 or less - if you can find it at all.

If you look for it there is a bundle from Microsoft that comes with Crimson Skies, Starlancer, and Metal Gear Solid(1st one) for about $20.

The Mechwarrior games rock on a Sidewinder joystick (but I don't like the flush base buttons on the new ones). I wouldn't turn down a Saitek X45 either.

If you are left handed, the Cyborg 3D looks pretty nice too.

Any descent space-combat sim works best with a joystick.

The venerable X-Wing/Tie Fighter/etc.
Wing Commander (ad infinitum)
Tachyon: the Fringe
Freespace 1 & 2

If you play MW games, you will need a joystick with a rudder function, so you can torso twist.

BTW: Crimson Skies is hella sweet with my Saitek X36U HOTAS

i second the freespace 2 recommendations above. it's one of the best space shooters/sims ever and a great game to test your joystick savvy. i actually just re-installed it the other day to remind me what a good space game should be after playing the nice-looking but corny freelancer demo (couldn't get used to the mouse thing and some of the dialog had me rolling on the floor).
