Best Joystick for least price?

I need to get a new joystick or game controller to play some games (actually don't have many games other than Quake 3, need for speed, descent 3, Total annihilation). I have no clue in this area, so what's good? I saw a gamepad 8 (I think that's what it was) digital game controller pad. Is this good? Is two for $24 a good price?

I like the logitech sticks.
I fly Warbirds and use an Interceptor, (3hats and a bazillion programmable buttons) with rudder pedals. Perhaps you don't need all this, most any of their 'digital' sticks are reliable and cheap. (<40$)

I've got a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D. The handle twists back and forth. For flight sims, it is great. When you come in for a kill shot, you can tweak the position of your planes tail, to get dead on target.
I think Buy.com has free shipping right now, you can pick one up for about $30.
