I am looking for senior - level management positions with a salary that matches my experience. I make around $150K per year.

I am looking to move out of where I am now.

Here are the roadblocks:

- Company job sites almost never publish senior management jobs that pay that much. Most company job sites have resume posting forms that are designed for lower skill levels.
- Recruiters also are mostly trying to fill lower management posts. Every recruiter I call say that their focus is on much younger and less salaried folks. And most of them treat you like you are a bother to them.

Whats the best strategy to get my resume out to interested parties ?

Please help ... I want to get out of here !

Thank you !!

Did you see that movie Fun with Dick and Jane?

Jokes aside, try to plant yourself in a place where you want to move to before making the move (duh! right?). Also, get to know some head hunters, network through your recruiters. (not the Congo kinds).

you can't depend on job postings really, as you've found out. you really need to reach out to your network/contacts. i would assume if you've been working that long, you should know quite a bit of people out there already.

He is on the money. Only knowing other people will get you a job once you become senior.

Thanks ... the problem is ... and its a big problem ... I have climbed the corporate ladder by being very good at what I do ... and in the process making a lot of money for the companies I worked for ... not hobnobbing with people ... I guess its my personality. I don't attend conferences or trade shows ... I have always felt its a waste of time.

The reality that its not what you know ... but who you know ... is beginning to sink in !!

At 150k you're looking for director level or above. With the amount of experience you have, I would get in touch with a reputable executive search firm and put your resume in their hands. They'll do all the legwork from there.

I agree completely. People-Networking is often overlooked by techs, but is one of the best ways to land a job, especially after you've built a ton of experience. All the jobs I've gotten in the past 10 years except one have come because someone knew who I was and knew my skillset.

++ on the networking...

My dad became the interim director of one lab of a government agency (to remain unnamed) after he was a professor for 17 years through some contacts he had from conferences he spoke at. He now directs 6 of the national labs, and has been offered the overall director position for the whole agency, but turned it down because he didnt want to move to DC, and he has already pretty much maxed out what he can make from the government.

He has hired all new directors for his labs, and all of them are people who he has known for years.

In the end, it just comes down to who you know.
