Best Italian restaurants in New York?

I plan to be visiting New York sometime over the next few days, and I wanted to get some recommendations for good Italian food. I know Little Italy probably has a ton of places, but I'd like to spend my money wisely (as I'm a college student), and not end up eating at a tourist trap.

Recommendations welcome..

Edit: Will most places be closed for X-Mas eve?

Get the Zagat guide for NYC, available in every major book store.

If you're cheap, go to gayot.com or citysearch.com

I would, but from my experience in boston, a lot of the best value eats aren't prominently featured on these places. That's why I wanted to get some recommendations from locals about good Italian food places that are affordable too.
