I'm currently using Shoutcast, which is better than nothi9ng to be sure, but I'm wondering if the iphone can do better. For example, it maxes out at 96K, and there's only one 80s station at that rate. Free is better of course if possible.
By comparison, on my PC through iTunes there are tons of decent stations at great bitrates.

Slacker is great. I also like iheart radio. It plays the various Clearwater stations across the country.

If you like that sort of thing, Public Radio is pretty neat. You can listen to public radio shows all over the country (live and time delayed) for free. It may be US only, though?

Out of the ones I tried, I liked the Sirius app the best. They have a free trial that only takes a few minutes to create an account for, and all you need is a valid e-mail address to create a new account when the trial expires.

Pandora is also pretty good. I'm not a fan of iHeartRadio, though, mostly because I'm not a fan of ClearChannel stations.
