best investment to let $2k perhaps 3k ride?

No Lifer
Long story short.

My wife needs international banking back to Japan for about $400 a month in bills. Hardly an issue IMHO, but it is.

She has a floating 1.5k-3k in a checking that gets transfered every three months at $1200 a pop, and another steady and growing $2k in a MMA to avoid 'fees'.

She thinks my investing is too aggressive, and paying off my credit cards from college is a waste as "it doesn't add to savings"....obviously an extreme conservative.

I even tried showing her a $600 deposit in my 401k options made more than her $2k MMA.

All this said, I only take $300 from her a month and I am getting sort of pissed about it. She claims I have credit cards that can bail me out of trouble and she has none so needs savings.

My reply is get one then and don't use it. If that rainy day comes you will be covered.

Her reply is credit cards are wasteful, too much interest charge.

we come full circle.

Let me get this straight, you both work but you pay all or most of the bills and your wife is bitching about you paying off debts?

Your wife says that paying off high interest credit card debt is not acceptable, but putting it into some safe, low yield investment is OK?

Sorry, can't help you. You married a financial retard.

QFFT...

Why, just WHY.

she is working in a retail, 20-something clothing store...she was making 6-7k a month in japan doing J2EE/JAVA but feels her english is not enough.....living in south florida and used to brokin engrish...I get confused.

I learned a lot about Japan's conservativeness from her and her friends though.

She took a $2/hr paycut and kept the same job basically. She nets about $1300 a month.

I have told her in america a floating $4k balance (between her two accounts), can have good results.

Her mall job works against her....'everyone' there has $10k or so in the bank, won't buy a house because the taxes will rape you, etc...

anyway...I understand my battle. What's the best investment?

I think the word you wanted is submissive...but no, just like the 1950's ending her, so did it in Japan.

A lot of men like to think that they still are and that it would be so easy for them to go overseas and have their pick.

If you need to do international banking, I'd suggest opening multiple checkign accoutns under CitiGroup... one in Tokyo, and another here. You'll get free EFT's between them and just give your in-laws in japan ATM cards

oh, and you married a financial retard with the whole not paying off the CC and doing the low yeild investment thing at the same time. That's just retarded.

As a general rule of thumb, buying a house benefits your tax status.

Don't get me wrong, I understand this. This is what the workers there claim.

Also they insist roofs must be replaced almost every year 😕

They are my CC's though...she has no credit debt.

You and your wife have a peculiar way of handling finances... you seem to keep things entirely separate, so if you need money you run up credit card debt rather than taking from "her" savings? 😕

And why are you investing when you have credit card debt? Is it really low interest credit card debt?
