Best Intel Motherboard for Overclocking

what is the best motherboard for Intel CPUs which is capable of overclocking without physical modifications of the mb or cpu.
 
Cheapest I'd reccomend the ABIT AI7. If you can splurge a bit more I would reccomend the ABIT IC7. If you can go all out I would say go ahead and get either the Asus P4-800e deluxe (i'm not sure on the model but it's somehting like this) or the Abit IC7-Max3.
 
The Abit IC7-G is the best overclocking board for socket 478 (better than the Max3 in my mind, because it doesn't have to be modded like the Max3 does). It won't hit 300mhz usually, but they all go well over 250 fsb. Oh, and it's about $30 cheaper than the Max3.

It has a problem maintaining CPU VCore while overclocking, it droops and causes high overclocks to fail.

The IC7, IC7-G, IC7-MAX3 and P4P800 do not have this problem.
 
any comments on the EPOX EP-4PDA3I (aside from it being an i865PE chipset)??? im planning to get this coz this costs half cheaper than Asus P4P800-Deluxe... and i winn get a P4 2.8C cpu... any comments on my overclocking potential with this motheboard?
 
Most likely your 2.8C will be D1 stepping and if it is, considering you're buying it now, that would mean the OC ability is not as high as you might have seen before. Intel's ealier chips will nearly always OC more than newer ones. Just a fact of life.

Since that's the case, any board using 865PE or 875 is more than enough for your CPU which will top out at around 235 or so FSB wise. Since value for money is high on your requirement list, look into the Epox board you mentioned a bit more, google it and see what it can do. Definatly a good buy I would think.

Epox's current offerings have nice OC ability while offering it at a more than reasonable price compared to other makers depending on where you buy it from. I was in the market for a 875 board and found the Epox 4PCA3+ more than well priced. Purchased it at work (comp store) which meant no markup and choice of distributors to order it from. I ended up saving $150AU on my budget of $350AU. OC and performance wise, see sig for results.
 
I was thinking of getting P4C 800 ldx but Abit IC7 is much better . I guess if I order the cpu from newegg or zipzoom the cpu wont be that easy to OC.
 
Abit IC7 is the best board for your money. Yea it's a little more pricey than an EPOX (of course it is Abit builds better boards in general), but it is the best 875 board out there (along with its big brothers IC7-G and Max3). And for about $110 US (pricewatch.com), its really not that expensive. People push the FSB on the IC7 up to and beyond 280FSB (with a 2.4C)....I'm running my 2.8C @ ~255FSB, my CPU is bogging me down. Hopefully my M0 that is shipping in will help that out.

I thought asus had fixed all the problems about the vcore with a new revision of the board. I think the 2nd revision im not sure, fixed that issue as well as that the heat sink being too tight problem. Correct me if im wrong.

I thought asus had fixed all the problems about the vcore with a new revision of the board. I think the 2nd revision im not sure, fixed that issue as well as that the heat sink being too tight problem. Correct me if im wrong.

it's not fixed.

vcore still "droops" on the p4c800 and p4p800.

i had a p4p800 and it still drooped.

also you guys are gettin' off subject... he said he wants the CHEAPEST....

in that case, the best cheapest overclocking board IMHO would be the abit IS7
 
That 875 chipset isnt worth it. Get the IS7. Then you can get the performance of the 875 for the 865 price. Not to mention.... newegg has it cheap and its easy as heck to install and configure. Great board in my opinion. and I am an old skewl amd man..i just changed over to intel and lovin it.... it is just expensive.
 
If you are looking at buying on a budget, what about the boards based on the PT880 chipset? I'm sorta in the same place, just want to OC well for less, which is the whole premise behind OC'ing. To get more bang for less bucks. If you want to OC the best parts you'll have to spend to get them. For around 60$ you can get all the features of the 875 deluxe boards without the extra 100$ or so. Xbit labs and HardOCP have a few reviews of the chipsets and they all seem to be getting good results from this maturing chipset. scores higer than the 865 and always right up to or better than the 875. I have heard the MSI board is limited on voltage, i think it tops out at around 1.6v. Good the the 2.4a pres. but not so good for the 800fsb counterparts. So I guess it depends on the chip you'll have in there also. ...
 
Zap's review of the MSI PT880

The MSI PT880 is a decent board, but has it's drawbacks. Onboard SATA doesn't work if you overclock. Low voltage limits. This board will overclock fine for the most part as long as you aren't looking for an incredible overclocker. For incredible overclocking on a budget look for boards with the 865PE chipset, such as the Abit AI7. (Note that I do own an MSI PT880 and an Abit IS7, but have never used an Abit AI7).
 
My BIG vote goes to the DFI LANPARTY PRO875B. The latest is a Rev B and it has been deemed best by many review sites. It really rocks.
