So, I just got a new printer.. an Epson Stylus C64 for 40$ shipped.

Anyway, I've heard that the paper you use has a big impact on print quality.

This thread is to be the thread to end all paper threads.

Inform me.

Discuss.

in all honesty i wouldnt go to crazy about what paper to get for an epson c64. What you just got is a low to mid range printer, with sub par print quality.

however, for photo paper i would consider canon or kodak, and for everyday use I would consider the HP Ultra Bright.

Well, I always stick to the rule that the printer companies formulate their paper to go best with their ink. So in that case, i'd get Epson brand paper.

That is true. C64 isn't a great photo printer, but you will definately tell the diff between glossy photo vs bright white.

Oh, I wasn't really talking about for photo prints.. but I guess the quality of text doesen't really concern most people. :p

If I was going to get photo paper, yeah, I would get Epson paper for the DURABrite inks..

You don't get an inkjet printer for its crisp text output. ;)

In any case any inkjet formulated paper (office depot is decent) will work fine for text.

For color prints, Epson paper for Epson printers.

Interestingly enough, Epson paper works GREAT on Canon printers. Maybe the opposite is true. :)

I've tried a ton of paper and the one that works the best for me (Lexmark z51) is Hammer Mill Color Copy Paper.

28 lb.
96 Brightness.

I don't use it for printing photos, I send mine to Sam's club. Ink's too damn expensive.

Heh, Ok, so I didn't get "the best".. But I didn't feel like spending 10 bucks on a pack of paper.

Ended up getting Office Max brand stuff. 96 brightness, 24lb, $4.99.

They had some HP brand 100 brightness paper for 6.99, and some Kodak 110 brightness for 8.99.

I don't think I'll print very many pictures on it. It came with 2 free sheets of photo paper. The prints look pretty good, better than I expected.. I'd say maybe 80% of the prints I got from Ofoto.com. Not bad for 40$ I guess.

I would prefer to use Hammermill myself. We've gone through well over 250,000 sheets at work since I've been there and never had a jam. Stay away from Sparco :x It looks nice being bright white but it jams like that it's job :X

Staples has their own brand of InkJet paper, 24lb and 102 brightness for the same price....you can also get 2 for 8 bucks or something. I prefer that. They also just came out with a bright white printing paper, which is 24lb and 108 brightness for like 6.99.

I'll never print photos on my HP photosmart 1000 again unless I absolutly have to after seeing what Costco/Sams Club/Walmart can do on Fuji paper.

I just picked up three 12 ream cases of Office Depot 90 brightness 20 lb. paper for $15 a case. That should keep the wife in paper for 6-8 months. Gotta ask for substitutions when the store runs out of the sale paper!
