Best, inexpensive name-brand memory.

Hello,

Was wondering what in your opinion is the best, most inexpensive name-brand memory for my system.

I have a Chaintech VNF-250 motherboard, with a Athlon 64 2800+, and a 6800nu nvidia geforce video card.

My motherboard says it can take upto pc3700 I believe. Also I am looking for about a gig of ram.

Thanks.

i found geil memory to be cheaper than the corsairs and kingstons etc, yet it is ver very good quality stuff

i have a gig of geil value ram pc3200, it can handle decent overclocks easily and ive never had a problem yet

i love their golden dragon stuff tho....the memory isnt packaged in a TSOP chip, its applied directly to the DIMM's PCB and it looks crazy.

failing that look up crucial's value ram, also very good, corsairs value ram while u know its good quality i think cas timings of 3 are abit too slow

Kingston has served me well at decent prices.
Their Value RAM is definitely very reasonably priced if you're not out to overclock.

Corsair value RAM comes in 3 and 2.5 CAS. Don't know why, but I'm guessing the CAS 3 is just older stuff still on the shelves as the 2.5 is actually slightly cheaperat Newegg.

Okay educate me what cas setting should my ram have then?

Yeah I would like to try to overclock a little I find games just quite dont run smooth enough for the $500 I have spent to upgrade the mb, cpu, and video card.

Thanks.

P.S. I game at 1024x768 as that is the native resolution of my 15"lcd.

Memory timings don't make much of a difference with the A64 (usually less than 3%). Running the memory synchronously with the HTT clock also provides no real benefit in most real-world applications. Stick with Corsair/Mushkin/Crucial value RAM (PC3200, CL2.5 or 3).
