best IGP for non gaming: 785G, 780G, 760G, or 740G

what is the best IGP for a non gaming rig: 785G, 780G, 760G, or 740G

By best I mean two things:
1. idle power consumption
2. Features other than gaming

Is there any issue with any of those that I should know of?
Normally higher end gaming = higher power consumption, but the newer chips seem to be just that, newer, and newer technologies tend to consume less power. I see they are all built with 55nm process so that isn't an issue there.

Avoid the 740G chipset, it's just an updated version of the 690G chipset.

740G is DX9, AVIVO
760G is AVIVO
780G is UVD
785G is UVD2

Depends on your video playback/audio needs really. Can wait and see if they come out with something based on the Radeon 5000 series soon (800 series?).

edit: 740G is just a renamed 690G northbridge...it can use the newer SB7x0 southbridges if they want.

do you know if there is a difference in power consumption between those chipsets?

I can't wait for the 800 series, my dad's work PC broke today, its definitely the mobo, we are buying a new one at frys first thing in the morning. He also hates video games. ;p
I am tempted to get a higher end one for the better HTPC capabilities so that it could be relegated to HTPC role later on when he does his next upgrade. But I am mostly concerned about power because he leaves it on 24/7/365 (so that he can VNC into it with his laptop and access work files from wherever)

there's no sense in not going 785... the differences in power consumption is negligible...

question. I hadn't thought of it before but his CPU is socket AM2.
How exactly does that work out for me? I am pretty sure he can't use DDR3, so that means no socket AM3, but he can use AM2?
some mobos claim they have socket AM3 with DDR2, some AM2+ socket mobos have DDR3... i thought AM2+ and AM3 were only differentiated by which ram they take

You need to get an AM2+ motherboard that lists DDR2 support for his AM2 processor to work in it. I would recommend getting a 785G based motherboard.

thank you, I did. Selection in frys was very limited and it had to be there since it needed it done today. I just finished up with it.
