I don't have automatic ice maker. Nor am I going to purchase a new freezer with one.

Had to throw the old ice cube trays out after the hurricane power outage.

What is out there in good ice cube trays? Amazon has some stuff that is extremely expensive. I got a couple of extremely cheezy ones at the dollar store but they've broken already.

I have much worse things than this to worry about, but as problems go, this one is probably solvable.

Getting tired of room temperature scotch.

Thanks.

The rubber ones are the best, because you can bend them and the ice pops out easily. We got a bunch from Ikea.

I don't make ice. It always tastes funny. I can't endorse drinking cold scotch, but if you must, put the bottle in the fridge.

I have both of the following: Tovolo King Ice Cube Tray and Tovolo Ice Sphere Molds, and I'd recommend either one. They both make ice cubes that are substantially larger than traditional ice cubes, which means less surface area for an equal amount of ice, so they melt slower and don't water down your drink as quickly. The cubes are slightly more practical, as the ice spheres are pretty large for most glasses you'll be drinking whiskey out of and much more expensive for the molds, not to mention they take a lot longer to set. The spheres generate more conversation at parties though.

I have a pair of Tovolo Perfect Cube Silicone Ice Cube Tray from amazon. They're great for drinks.

Take a couple of deep breaths, re-read that a few times and see if you can figure out why it's utter nonsense.

Surface area to volume is an important consideration in drinking.

Who the hell nurses a drink until all the ice melts? If your consideration is watering the drink as little as possible you use fewer ice cubes and therefore reduce the overall surface area. If you want an ice cold drink then you store your booze in the freezer like a college kid. People who drink good liquor on the rocks want just a little cooling and a little watering and the path to that is with one small ice cube, not one giant one with three times the surface area and hence three times the short term melting. There's a reason why giant ice cubes are nothing more than a novelty used by idiots. You will NEVER see them served anywhere or by anyone that takes drinking seriously.

Hey, thanks all! Lots of interesting suggestions. Sadly my WalMart doesn' have any in stock. Looks like I'm headed for Container Store.

BTW, activated charcoal really works for getting rid of smells/tastes in the freezer.
