What is the best GPU for HD playback (smooth, stutter free playback)?

The card I'm looking for:
1. HD & 3D HD playback (including 1080p blu ray) - the best I can get.
2. HDMI (all sound formats)
3. Preferably passive but smooth playback is more important.
4. Will CPU playback be better (i5, i7)?
