Best HSF?

I'm currently in the market for the BEST HSF that's also extremely quiet. I'm trying to find one because the stock cooler that came with my AMD Phenom II X4 955 is extremely loud paired with this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157176

The mobo won't allow me to change the fan speed/adjust the temperature correctly so usually I'm stuck with 45 degree temps and then a fan speed of about 3000 RPMs constantly. I believe that the heatsink is one main cause of it. It's keeping my CPU running so hot all the time. Seriously, when I say 45, I mean it's constantly 45 all the time.

Anyway, I really need a new heatsink/fan combo that's extremely silent because the fan jumps from about 4500 RPMs to level 10 which is 7000 RPMs when it decides it's getting hot/overheated.

So please, if you have any suggestions, I reallllllllllllllly want to know what you've got to offer. :) Thanks!

Noctua NH-D14 is good and can be quiet (fins spaced apart).

Your first mistake was buying a really hot running CPU. :p

That's a little more than I want to spend. I guess I should have specified. I want to spend under $50. >_>

It was the best CPU for my price. I couldn't help it. :(

Cooler Master Hyper 212+ with 2 low RPM fans in push-pull is probably your best bet if you don't want to spend the big bucks for the best coolers out there like the NH-D14.

Also, 45 degrees really isn't hot at all, especially for a hot-running CPU like the Phenom II X4 955. You're fine as long as your load temps are below 65-70C.

So much for "the best." :p

How are you with rebates?

Corsair CAFA70 is within your budget and even cheaper after rebate. Free shipping too! It should be decent - not the quietest setup with the dual fans it comes with and the thin fin spacing, but will be quieter than your stock cooler.

Since you have a hot CPU, you'd need one of the supercoolers. Not the easiest to install, but Scythe Yasya is a beast for $50.

Scythe Mugen 2 is another supercooler alternative for less than $50.
