I am building a system for a friend and used a E6300 Pentium dual core that I got in a mobo/cpu combo from frys....

The mobo has an fsb wall I wasn't aware of until after I bought the board but seems to be widely known and even with the latest bios (cannot find any beta bioses) is limited to 340fsb

I use the 105x multi and 340fsb for 3.57ghz. The amazing thing is I can get it prime95 small FFT 12 hour stable at 1.3v which undervolts to 1.28-1.26v idle and 1.26-1.248v under load.

The temps if can be trusted through the gigabyte software says 64c under prime load with side case opened. Low sound is a key so the case will not have any additional case cooling then it has now....

The rpms on the HSF max out at 2000....I have turned off auto speed and max sure it is running at max speed. Small fan means audible difference at max.

THE GOAL:

I want silence, but to keep it at 10.5x 333fsb at least 24-7 I want to keep the temps in the low to mid 50's.

So looking for something in the 92mm to 120mm range that I can run near same 2000rpm but with lower db.

What do you have in the 30 or less range that is good?

Should I look for something used perhaps to keep it in that budget range?

Since this chip seems so phenomenal at near stock volts I wish we had a better board capable of 400fsb to see if we could attain near 4ghz with 1.4v or less.

Quite a few $20-30 HSFs that are quiet and cool a lot better than the dinky stock Wolfdale E6300 HSF. Just a few:

Cooler Master Hyper TX3
XIGMATEK HDT-S963/S964
EVERCOOL HPK-10025EA
Scythe Katana 3

Has anyone tried a BSEL mod on the CPU? I've encountered some boards that had FSB walls with lower FSB CPUs that could be overcome with a BSEL mod.
