I'm kind of in a hurry and theres no telling when my pc's gonna crap out. Could overheating cause stalls and freezes? Yesterday, I had 5 IE windows open and I kept getting illegal errors so I rebooted. Windows froze at the splash screen and froze 2 more times after restarts. I just got it working somewhow. My temp at thetime was 161 F on CPU and 88 F in system. I'm looking for a new fan now since this one isn'y cooling too much. Ive got a 1 GHz Athlon Classic, Soyo K7VIA mobo, 256 MB PC133 @100 generic RAM, 16 MB RivaTNT, X-Gamer 5.1, USB 250 Zip, Phillips 8x4x32 CDRW. any other info needed?

running win98, latest release. Considering win2k if it will get rid of these problems.

Yes, overheating could be causing those problems. Is your CPU overclocked any? What HSF do you have on there now?

I have an Alpha P7125 on mine and it works great, but at ~$45 it's a little expensive. You should also consider the Global Win VOS 32.

I have always used The Alpha P7125 for Slot A Athlons. It has a copper inlaid bottom, the fans are placed on the "top" of the HS, not on the side toward the DIMM slots. It also installs to the heatplate with self tapping screws instead of clips for a very tight fit. You could see it Here.

No, my cpu is not overclocked. I also have the RAM underclocked to a 100 from 133 because I don't know how to change it. I have the stock HSF combo that came with the cpu/mobo bundle. I have been using this system sincle January so I don't know why this fan crapped out on me. It doesn't go over 2750 RPM anymore, even when the temp is at 170 F. Thanks for your replies.:D
