Puttin together a new system.

What's the best HSF for a 2500+ Barton @ $10?

What's the best case+psu for $60? I have a 9700 Pro, 2500+ barton, 2 hard-drives, cd, dvd, Asus A7N8X deluxe.

Thanks! I don't know jack about these componenets, I'm pretty well caught up on all the other sys components, but not these.

Oh yeah, anybody know if Crucial makes Dual Channel DDR? :) Thanks again.

GVC has a few goodies or just get a retail and use it's HS/Fan then you'll have a 3Yr warranty to Boot. As far as a Case goes Look @ Chenmings or equivilant with @ least a quality 300wt PSU or the Like and Yes Crucial's DDR is Dual Channel compatible.

Thanks Sheriff :)

Do the "help! I'm putting together a system!" ever get old for you guys?

Any other opinions?

Best case + PS for $60-70 is the Antec SLK3700AMB. Decent PS, good cooling, great drive cage with grommets. There was a Hot Deals thread on how to get it cheaper than Newegg, search should find it.

FYI I'm using one of these for a server case with celeron 1.3a, gf2mx, and 5 HDs (250 GB x3, 120 GB, 30 GB). Antec makes good PSs so it should handle your system.

I personally don't think so, everybody's got to start somewhere and a forum is a good place to do it. Besides your trying to learn more about computers and building one yourself is a great way to learn. I just wish we lived in a world where everyone would learn how to do this kind of thing.

...followed by ResellerRatings.com since the lowest price companies sometimes offer much worse service than newegg.com.

I would also check out the Enlight 72XX series. Nice cases and high quality power supplies. I've used them for probably 1/2 of my builds, and they are as nice to work with as an Antec case.

Thanks shady :)

re: pricewatch and resellerratings. Appreciate the advice of course... and yeah that's where I start my search. But I don't know *jack* about HSFs, and not much about cases and PSUs. The comparison/round-up reviews I see for HSFs and for PSUs generally focus on higher end components, not the cheap-ass stuff I'm looking for. So, while it's easy to find good prices using pricewatch (and hotdeal forums), they don't really tell me anything about which HSFs/PSUs offer the best quality (in the cheap-ass-mofo-on-a-tight-budget range).

Thanks again for all advice though. Think I'll go with the HSF shady mentioned.

I do have a retail boxed 2500+, are the hsfs on those decent enough to warrant not even worrying about heating, or should I pick up that HSF mentioned. I will not be overclocking, but considering that I'll be using a lower-end case, and 9700Pro I am somewhat concerned about heat.

EDIT: Meant to say thanks for the case/PSU recs so far too.

case: the antec AMB3700 or whatever it is. go search on newegg.

HSF: shiffle or snizzle or errrr go again on newegg and search for AMD HSF then sort by price. it is not a popular brand but very highly reviewed. i think it is $8 or something. pick up some arctic silver too.

the answer is that most stuff is the cheapest on newegg.

edit: retail HSF will be fine. i have a palomino (which is the hottest athlon XP's) on that puny $3 or so HSF that came with it. no problem at all. i do recommend getting a HSF and a nice speed control 80mm fan to make things quiet.

and oh yeah heatsink/fan has nothing to do with your video card heat. make sure the new case comes with at least 2 case fans, or get 2 yourself
