So I get out of work at 1 today. I'm picking up my girlfriend on the way home and we're going to make tacos for lunch. I haven't eaten today, I won't be home until well after two, and I've been wanting tacos since Preston and Steve on WMMR's morning show talked about them for 20 minutes this morning.

I WANT THE BEST TACOS EVER. So what should I get to make them. Obviously I should get fresh lettuce, cheese, and beef, but what spices should I buy and are there any special tortillas I should get? Anything else you use to give your tacos extra zing?

TACOS!!!!!!!

We make excellent soft tacos at home. I prefer them with chicken though. The key is to get some nacho cheese sauce and put a little of that on. For the spices I actually prefer the little packet of taco seasoning they have at Aldi. Their tortillas are good as well. Add some lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese, black olives, refried beans, and sour cream and you're good to go.

this is how my moms always made them, never had a taco like this, gonna sound weird but it's GOOOD.

she cooks the ground beef, and for every LB of so, she add's a 3/4 cup can of tomato sauce, then fills the can with water and add's that too. Tosses in some chili powder, stips and lets it cook down. When it's cooked down it's delicious. Doesn't have a Tomatoey taste really. I can't explain how it tastes, but it's great.

making me hungry actually

Hopefully the gf is bringing that already...

I normally just pick up a packet of taco seasoning from the grocery store and toss in some cayenne pepper and onions.

Just buy one of those box kits at the market and follow the directions. I've never had better tacos. I usually eat about 7-8 of them.

Be sure to crisp up the shells in the oven.
Use fresh veggies.
Make some guacamole.
Drink beer.

I rarely advocate storebought seasoning blends, but for some reason, I just can't duplicate storebought taco seasoning. Get the low-salt stuff.

Are we talking about Taco Bell style tacos or "authentic"? I never seen ground beef tacos while I was on trip in Mexico.
