Best Home Theater for $500?

A person I know wants the best home theater system (receiver + speakers) in $500. This should be something we can buy at a retail store, so no prices online.

At Best Buy tomorrow there will be two Panasonic systems tomorrow, both are 6.1 setups with one being a 700 watt system and the other a 600 watt system.

The 700 watt system:
Front/Rear: 60 watts x 4
Center: 220 watts
Subwoofer: 240 watts

600 watt system:
Receiver: 55 watts x 4
Center 160 watts
Subwoofer: 220 watts

The main difference I see is in the Center and Subwoofer. The sub is only 20 watts lower, but the center is 60 watts lower. The difference is in price, the 700 watt system is $500 and the 600 watt system is $350. Is it really worth it for the extra $150 for mainly a stronger center?

Also, any other systems you can reccomend in this price range? These are just two system that were listed on the ad for tomorrow. The main requirement is for a 5.1 setup. TIA

I would base it on if they need/want the tower speakers the more expensive one has

Watt ratings on that level HTIB equipment are a joke

I would love to hear that cracker jack box sized center with 220 watts pumped into it

Wattage doesn't mean quality, it means how much quality you can expect if you turn your amp to "11" but other than that i don't care much about wattage ratings. Go with the one that costs $350......but that's just me

Best sounding in that price range... kills the panasonic IMO. Doesn't look all that great but the sound rocks for the price. Plus today CC is doing 15% back in a gift card if you order it today on their website.

my bud picked one up last week, and it sounds great for the price. hes very happy with it.

he sold me his old JVC A/V 5.1 setup for $70 :Q about a month ago to put towards a new system.
