I know that some good deals exist/ed for Brother HL-1440, Samsung ML-1710, etc, *BUT*...
some have problems after a certain amount of use (ie the Brother HL-1440),

SO, who makes a non-expensive laser printer that
performs well over a long period of time?

I'm afraid I do'nt know what you are talking about...

Almost all laser printers perform well over a long period of time.... that's one of the good things about laser printers in general.

HP 1150? It's like $250 though.

I don't know, for $70-100, I wouldn't care if my printer died after 2 years or so. I consider lasers in this price range inkjet replacements. Their TCO over 2 years, if they die, would still be better than most inkjets + supplies over the same time period.

That said, my Samsung ML1430 has been chugging along with no problems for about a year and a half and my parents' Brother 1440 has been working great for a couple of months.

I've had an HP 1200 laser jet printer for the past three years or so and it's been fine. I've only had to replace the toner like once.

I have the 1010 I bought back in June.

I have yet to replace the toner and it prints REALLY NICE.

Thinking of getting a canon IJ for pics though.

Just need to find a cheap way to run USB printers off the netowrk with no comp.

I have an HP LaserJet, don't remember model offhand since it's downstairs, but we've had it for MANY years now, many 4 or 5 or slightly more and it's been going great to this day. No problems except we had a multifeeding problem with it, which was soon documented as a defect that goes wrong after a certain amount of time, HP sent us a tool which fixed that, now we don't have that problem.

HP thru today only: $150 at Staples.com.
Local b&m Staples just said it's $129 + tax *after* $20 MI gift card.....so for me locally w/tax it's ~$139 out the door (after MIGC).

Call up brother. I did with mine and they sent me a new toner cartridge, and it fixed it right up.
