Well hey guys.. I'm just curious what you gotta say about this, I've tried so far a G.W. FOP38 and a Golden Orb. the FOP38 is simply too loud, (went on my T-Bird at work) and I am currently using the G'Orb, which is good, but obviously isn't the best.. got any recommendations? I think this CPU wants to do a gig but it needs the help.. I was thinking about trying a Vantec, good or bad idea? heh.. :D

thanks for the help!

I use a FOP32 with the same combination which works well (cc0 700E, 1050mhz, 1.75v, 34C idle).

Alphas would probably do the trick as well

Alphas are too expensive no?
I dunno I might go with a FOP32, kinda thought about it.. but isn't it the same as a FOP38 basically 'cept a diffrent fan? if so I can try and pickup a different fan..

I'm using an Alpha PAL6035 on mine. My calibrated temps show that it idles at room temp and full load is around 7-10 degrees above room temp.

In my opinion, the best you could buy would be the Alpha PEP 66 with a YS Tech or Sunon fan. Sure, it's not the cheapest but you won't have to look for anything further after you buy it. Also, you would have to modify it since it has a side mounted fan...see this link...it's not that hard to do though.

If you can stand the noise,t hen this is what i would get, the GlobalWin WBK38.

Brief description

<< The latest heatsink from GlobalWin, this is a monster. The heatsink alone is 68 by 75 by 42mm, and has the Delta 38cfm 60mm fan on top. More than enough cooling for your socket A, 370, or socket 7 processors. >>

hope this helps

The Pentium III 700 is such an efficient CPU even when overclocked, you cannot get any better using more expensive HSF than the Golden Orb. In fact, the Gorb has the best mounting mechanism for P3's which is the most mechanically stable and maintain the proper pressure.

I am using an Alpha now only because I have it.

I compared the Alpha with Gorb and Chrome orb on the same P3-980 on CUSL2. There is no measurable difference in CPU temperature at idle or surfing or word processing etc. When running contiueous loop Prime95, the Aplha is about 2 degrees C lower than the Chrome Orb and 5 lower than the Gorb. For example, in a 28C case temperature, the CPU will be 37C, 39C and 42C running Prime95. It gives you a safety margin of 30 degrees or so in all cases.

Use an Alpha if you can afford it. The Sanyo Denki fan (3800 rpm, 28 db) is adequate and very quiet. There is absolutely no reason to put up with the noise of a FOP38 on a P3.
