Any Silver Heatsink compound does the best, but Arctic Silver is usually more commonly found on the net. Chemtronics also makes a good compound, but you can't find it as many places.

Arctic Silver is wonderful stuff. The Chemtronics is good, but AS is easier to work with & has better thermal characteristics. Plus AS doesn't conduct electricity enough to have to worry.

Get Arctic Silver. ~$15 a tube, but worth ever penny.

If you read any overclock website review about cooling you'll see that Arctic Silver is the thermalpaste of choice. It will give you 1-5c difference in cooling. Just make sure you read thier instructions on how to apply it from thier web site www.arcticsilver.com. Do it with the motherboard out of the case as you can check the joint between the cpu die and the HSF (HeatSink/Fan). Holding it up to the light helps find bad seating.

If you don't go with the arctic silver, I've used the aluminum based paste from 2cooltek.com with great effect. It's not as good, but it's cheaper.

this is bringing us way off topic, but how do go about getting "platinum member" status, bonkers325? I'm not even sure how you get elite but i've never seen platinum

Platinum Members have posted 2000 posts. Diamond is the highest at 3000. click on the help tab at the top of any forum screen and it has the list. There isn't a listing for Elite but maybe it was the old title for Golden.

Elite was around before Golden/Diamond/Platinum etc. Elite is granted solely at the discrimination of the moderators/administrators, but a stated pre-requisite is having 2000 posts and being generally useful and helpful :) I've seen well established members with less posts be made elite, so the rules aren't in stone. But like I said, it's all at their discretion. Now, back on topic, I use the Arctic Silver for small contact areas. I got it right from Nevin at The Cooling Store.
