Best headphones for theatre sound experience for watching rips?

I like to watch movies on my PC rather than my TV. I have the Senn. HD555 now but dont like them much coz they are not loud enough when watching rips or listening to music (100% vol setting in windows and 100% vol setting in VLC)

Anybody has a recommendation?

Thanks

Budget? Also, you might be better off just getting an amp for the headphones. If it's a desktop, there are many internal sound cards that would give the HD555 plenty of volume. If a laptop, you'll be looking at having to use an external sound card.

Or you can find another pair of headphones with a lower impedance (usually means they'll be powered more easily, but not always the case).

Oh never thought it was the soundcard. I've been using onboard sound for years. Budget is about $100-200. Yes the system is s desktop. Could you provide a link to an amp? Also could you be specific on the best audio card available today for the desktop?

Thanks

Didn't want to start a new brag thread, but tonight I scored a set of Senn HD595s from Goodwill for $10. :awe: Excellent shape with just a few small scratches from being buried in a box with some old and busted 70s era Fisher stereo parts. In fact, I got the whole box for $10. And I did show her the `phones, letting her know they were in there, and she just said "it's all together, I don't care".

Got them home and they sound like pure honey, very neutral and precise, great soundstage and tone. I need more time for a long term impression, but so far I'm very impressed.

Score!

So, don't neglect your local Goodwill and Salv Army, there's gold buried in that mountain of sh*t!

This will be the last sound card you ever own. I have one that is hooked up to my Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 cans and I love it!

Whatever you decide to do, get off that onboard sound at all costs. No matter what cans you decide to buy they won't be any better until you move to a dedicated sound card.

There are some guys over at http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23 that are very knowledgeable when it comes to sound cards and headphones.
