total newb to the hdtv's, and i'd love to get one while all the deals are going on for the superbowl and whatnot. size is somewhat of an issue...i'd like to be a decent sized television (46 inches or larger if possible). i'd appreciate any suggestions with that price range in mind.

yeah sorry about not clarrifying that either. what i've been looking at are rear projection televisions...

that's the kind i want, not the cream of the crop lcd/plasmas...

CRT based RPTV is about it in that price range unless you want something small.

Toshiba has two that are pretty decent. The 51" is 51H84. You can maybe find a Sony onsale for around that price.
